Biography

Dr. Dola Algady is a linguist and dedicated academic currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Linguistics in the Faculty of Language Studies at Sohar University. With her extensive experience in the field of linguistics and language education, Dr. Algady has held various academic positions and made significant contributions to research and projects focused on documenting endangered languages.

In her current role at Sohar University, Dr Algady has actively engaged in teaching and research endeavours since 2018. As an Assistant Professor of Linguistics, she imparts her vast expertise to her students, covering a diverse range of subjects such as phonetics and phonology, grammar, writing skills, communication skills, sociolinguistics, methods of teaching, and language acquisition and learning. Driven by her passion for linguistics and dedication to teaching, she inspires numerous students to delve into the intricacies of language and communication.

Beyond her teaching responsibilities, Dr Algady contributes significantly to the academic community at Sohar University. She serves on various committees and plays an instrumental role in organising conference presentations and events. In particular, she takes pride in organising student conference events, providing a platform for students to showcase their research and academic work while fostering their communication and research skills. Additionally, she has been actively involved in organising conferences and workshops focused on teaching English to non-native speakers, thereby contributing to the advancement of education quality and effective teaching practises. Dr Algady’s commitment extends to delivering lectures and presentations, actively sharing her knowledge, and contributing to a research-oriented and professionally developing culture.

Before joining Sohar University, Dr Algady held the position of Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of English and Literature at Al Zahra College for Women in Oman from 2015 to 2018. Her role involved shaping the curriculum and creating a conducive learning environment. Her leadership skills and dedication to academic excellence earned her high regard among her colleagues and students.

Dr Algady’s contributions to academia are not limited to Oman. She also made notable contributions abroad, serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Madaba in Jordan from 2014 to 2015. During this time, she made significant contributions to the academic landscape through her teaching and research. Prior to that, she worked as a Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 2008 to 2013, where she taught linguistics and Arabic to non-native speakers. These diverse educational experiences have provided her with a broad perspective and deep understanding of the diverse learning needs of students.

Dr Algady’s research interests primarily lie in the field of second language acquisition by L2 learners of English. Her valuable research findings have been published in reputable journals, contributing to the ever-growing body of knowledge in the field. Recognising her expertise and dedication, Dr Algady has been awarded grants to work on the documentation of the Kumzari language in Oman. As part of a team, she has spearheaded efforts to build an archive of Kumzari narratives and create a comprehensive dictionary of the language. Her invaluable work in preserving and documenting endangered languages has garnered wide recognition and holds significant implications for the preservation of cultural heritage.
