Biography

Dr. Dima Dayoub holds a Ph.D. in Educational Technology and TESOL from the University of Manchester, the United Kingdom (2009). She completed her M.ED. in Educational Technology and TESOL at the University in Manchester, the UK; and her BA and Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Literary Studies at the English Language Department, Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Tishreen University in Syria.

She was appointed as the head of the English Language Teaching Department at Tishreen University, Syria (2017 to 2021), where she worked as an associate professor of ELT. She has an extensive experience teaching at a postgraduate level in two MA programmes: MA (by research) in Language and English Language Teaching, and MA in English Language Teaching (by Specialisation and Qualification). Some of the courses she designed and delivered include Qualitative Research Methodology, Integrating Technology with English Language Teaching and Learning, Syllabus Design and Evaluation, Methodologies of Teaching, Computers and Education, Practical Applications in Schools and Professional Concerns. Additionally, Dr Dima taught ESP and EAP in a number of other private and public universities including Al-Sham Private University, Al-Andalus Private University for Medical Sciences, the Syrian Virtual University and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime research.

In 2018, Dr. Dima was awarded the Erasmus Plus Teaching Mobility scholarship (as a visiting professor at the University of Barcelona, Spain).  In the same year, she was the recipient of the Media and Digital Literacy Academy training grant, at the Lebanese American University, Beirut.

Dr. Dima has contributed to two academic books released in the UK: The University of the Future and The University of the Future: Responding to Covid-19. The books are co-authored by internationally renowned academics and researchers.  Throughout her academic career, she has also published several scholarly articles in highly-reputed local and international journals and has participated as main speaker in a UNESCO-supported international webinar organised by the University of South Africa (2021). The webinar’s main theme was how universities should deal with the disruptions in responding to Covid-19. Her Ph.D. research focused on adopting virtual education in the Syrian Virtual University, which was a newly established government-accredited pioneering project and one of the first completely online virtual universities in the Middle East. Her major research interests include the use of technology in language learning and teaching, blended and virtual education and media literacy.

Dr. Dima’s unwavering commitment to nourishing her students’ intellectual curiosity is evident in her teaching philosophy. She encourages students to think critically and pursue state-of-the art research avenues. She believes that a classroom environment that fosters openness and exploration allows students to develop their own unique voices and perspectives. She has strived with her former research students to achieve a transformative experience that shaped their academic journeys and helped them navigate their career paths. She supervised and co-supervised a number of MA dissertations related to the use of technology in language learning and teaching, 4 of which has been completed.
