Meeting of the Ministry of Higher Education with the Governor of Al Batinah North and the Municipal Council

On Thursday, February 1, 2024, Sohar University hosted a meeting on its campus with Her Excellency Professor Rahma bint Ibrahim Al-Mahrooqi, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, and His Excellency Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of Al Batina North, in the presence of members of the municipal council.

This meeting is part of the implementation of royal orders on the necessity of constant contact between ministers, governors, and local council members to assist them, as well as integrating development initiatives to the ministry’s goals.

The meeting began with a speech by Her Excellency Professor Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al-Mahrooqi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Innovation, in which she mentioned the role that higher education institutions play in qualifying human competencies and stimulating and encouraging scientific research, innovation, entrepreneurship and community service, as well as reviewing the ministry’s role in supporting and encouraging Omani higher education institutions in the worldwide quality rankings.

His Excellency Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah, gave a visual presentation to describe the governorate and outline planned development initiatives. Sohar University and branches of the National University of Science and Technology (International Maritime College Oman (IMCO), the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the College of Pharmacy) showcased their programs, initiatives, and projects through visual presentations.

The meeting finished with exchanging ideas between the parties. This would help to improve higher education, scientific research, and innovation, as well as strengthen the Ministry’s assistance and collaboration with the North Al Batinah Governorate.

Her Excellency also met with final-year students from the governorate’s higher education institutions, urging them to take advantage of initiatives designed to become competitive businesses.
