Sohar University has launched the Dr. Sulaiman Al-Hoqani Research Grant, supported by his family, as an initiative aimed at sustaining his scientific and humanitarian legacy and contributing to the advancement of higher education and scientific research in the Sultanate of Oman.
The grant builds on the legacy of the late Dr. Sulaiman Al-Hoqani who was a strong supporter of science and education and firmly believed in the importance of knowledge and its role in developing individuals and serving society. The grant embodies the values of giving and investing in knowledge and researchers, helping to support new generations of scholars while ensuring the continuity of his scientific and intellectual legacy.
The grant places particular emphasis on PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, recognising their vital role in generating knowledge and strengthening research capacity. It aims to enable researchers to dedicate more time to their research and complete their theses, while also supporting outstanding research projects, participation in international scientific conferences, and publication in peer-reviewed academic journals.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Hamdan Al Fazari, Vice Chancellor of Sohar University, expressed his appreciation to the family of Dr. Sulaiman Al-Hoqani, saying:
“We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the family of the late Dr. Sulaiman Al-Hoqani for this generous contribution. Investing in researchers and young minds is among the most sustainable and impactful forms of investment and reflects a deep belief in the importance of scientific research and its role in serving society and advancing development. We look forward to this grant supporting researchers and enhancing the quality of the University’s research outputs.”
Researcher Munira Al Maqbali, one of the beneficiaries of the grant, said:
“I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the family of Dr. Sulaiman Al-Hoqani for this generous support, which will enable me to continue my PhD studies at Sohar University, complete my research project, and dedicate more time to research and academic publication. I aspire for the findings of my research to contribute to sustainability efforts and support the industrial sector and society in the Sultanate of Oman.”
Her research project, entitled “An Integrated Approach to the Treatment of Slaughterhouse Wastewater in the Sultanate of Oman: Assessing Environmental and Health Impacts and Regional Management Practices,” focuses on an area closely related to environmental sustainability and water security.
The project aligns with several objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly those related to advancing knowledge and innovation, promoting environmental sustainability, and developing research-based solutions to challenges of national priority.
The grant represents a model of community partnership in supporting higher education and scientific research, transforming the recognition of the contributions of scientists and researchers into a sustainable knowledge legacy that extends to future generations of researchers.
