As 1 September approaches, Sohar University — the first private university in the Sultanate of Oman — celebrates its Silver Jubilee, marking 25 years of its distinguished journey in serving the nation. In celebration of this significant milestone, the University is preparing to welcome students for the 2026–2027 academic year, reaffirming its continued commitment to leadership in teaching, learning, and innovation.
Beginning with its most fundamental pillar, the University has launched a comprehensive plan this year that includes the recruitment of additional qualified academic staff to further enrich the teaching and learning experience and enhance the quality of academic outcomes. In addition to strengthening its academic workforce, the University has reviewed and updated most of its student-related policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of more efficient and flexible academic and administrative services.
As part of its preparations to enhance the campus environment, the University has also placed significant emphasis on student life. A number of new shaded areas and student seating spaces have been established, along with the addition of a modern café. Each of the University’s six faculty buildings has also been enhanced with a distinctive visual identity reflecting excellence and renewal. The University has further enriched the aesthetic appeal of the campus by creating innovative photography spots that showcase the beauty of Sohar University and provide students with opportunities to capture memorable moments throughout their academic journey.
In terms of student empowerment, the University has placed students at the heart of the educational process as partners in decision-making by introducing incentives to encourage their participation in academic and support committees. To further strengthen student engagement, the University has created an integrated environment for its 34 student groups, ensuring that they have the necessary resources and support to implement their activities and programs throughout the new academic year.
In terms of academic and technological readiness, the University confirms that it is fully prepared to deliver its academic programs across its six faculties, offering qualifications ranging from Diploma to PhD level in a variety of disciplines. At the same time, Information Technology services across the campus have been upgraded and enhanced. All student-related processes have been automated, including University registration, the issuance of student identification numbers, and class schedules. These processes can now be completed electronically without requiring students to visit the University in person.
The University has also enhanced its Wi-Fi network and expanded the electronic resources available through the Learning Resources Centre, ensuring that they can effectively serve all students and provide an advanced digital learning environment.
Since its establishment 25 years ago as the first private university in the Sultanate, Sohar University has remained a beacon of knowledge and learning. Today, as it approaches the celebration of its Silver Jubilee, the University renews its commitment to continuing its journey of “Developing Minds, Building the Future” and to remaining an active contributor to the development of Omani human capital and the realization of Oman Vision 2040, under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq — may Allah protect him — and under the direct supervision of the esteemed Ministry of Education.
As Sohar University welcomes its students in its 25th year, it looks forward to an academic year filled with achievement, contribution, and excellence.
