The Learning Resources Center at Sohar University organized a distinguished event on the occasion of Arab Library Day, in collaboration with Oman College of Health Sciences – North Al Batinah Branch, as part of efforts to enhance awareness of the importance of libraries and their vital role in disseminating knowledge and supporting scientific research and innovation.
The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Fatima bint Hamoud Al Muqbali, Associate Dean at the Oman College of Health Sciences – North Al Batinah Branch, and attended by Dr. Awadh Al Maamari, Pro Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at Sohar University, along with a number of academics, information specialists, university students, and members of the local community, reflecting strong engagement with cultural and knowledge-based activities.
The program featured a variety of interactive and cultural activities, most notably an interactive exhibition titled “Read Me, I Am Human,” which was presented in an innovative format combining scientific knowledge with human experience. Human body systems were transformed into interactive learning stations, presenting information in a simplified and engaging manner. The event also included a workshop titled “From Shelves to Algorithms: The Journey of the Arab Library Toward Artificial Intelligence,” which addressed digital transformations in modern library environments, in addition to activities designed for children under the “Little Library” initiative.
The event also witnessed the launch of five literary publications by Omani female authors, which were presented and signed in the presence of their authors. These included “When the Sea Refused to Swallow Me” by Iman Ali, “The Twenty-Third” by Rawan Al Balushi, “The Sun of My Days” by Amal Al Busaidi, “Ariana” by Reema Al Balushi, and “9 October: When the Dream Began” by Khadija Al Amri. These works ranged from novels to human-interest stories and literary experiences, reflecting the University’s support for literary talent and its role in promoting cultural engagement within the community.
In her speech, Dr. Fatima Al Maqbali emphasized that celebrating Arab Library Day highlights the importance of libraries as a central pillar in the dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of a culture of learning and innovation. She noted that libraries have evolved into dynamic hubs for creativity and development, contributing to the building of an informed society capable of keeping pace with modern demands.
Mr. Mohammed Al Araimi, Manager of the Learning Resources Center at Sohar University, also stated that this occasion reflects the evolving role of libraries in supporting scientific research and enhancing knowledge awareness, particularly in light of rapid digital transformations.
This event is part of Sohar University’s ongoing efforts to develop its information services and strengthen its role as a leading academic institution in supporting education and scientific research, through the organization of qualitative initiatives that promote knowledge dissemination and foster a culture of reading and innovation within the community.
