Sustainability Action Team (SAT) | Terms of Reference (ToR)

The SAT will provide quarterly reports to the EMC and provide recommendations how to drive sustainability initiatives at Sohar University.

Advancing in international rankings and adhering to global sustainability standards is a key priority for Sohar University. Oman is increasingly prioritising sustainability as part of its national strategy, presenting SU with an opportunity to position itself as a leader in this field. While SU has achieved notable milestones in sustainability-focused research, a coordinated approach is necessary to maximize visibility in rankings and ESG reporting.

The proposed Sustainability Action Team (SAT) will implement measurable initiatives and engage relevant stakeholders. This initiative will align SU with Oman’s sustainability goals and support potential collaborations. The SAT will drive SU’s sustainability impact, enhancing rankings, ensuring compliance, and solidifying its position as a regional leader in sustainable development.

Objectives

• Consolidate SU’s sustainability efforts under a focused and streamlined structure.
• Integrate sustainable practices across campus operations, academics and student engagement.
• Improve SU’s visibility and performance in QS and THE Impact rankings.
• Ensure SU meets ESG compliance standards for the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX).
• Align SU’s activities with Oman’s sustainability agenda.
• Foster a culture of sustainability on campus and in the wider community.

Focus Areas

1. Sustainability on Campus:
   • Organize energy-saving campaigns, tree planting, and sustainability workshops.
   • Promote sustainable practices through active student engagement.
2. ESG and Rankings Compliance:
   • Track and report data for international ranking agencies (QS and THE Impact).
   • Ensure alignment with MSX and ESG metrics, including energy, waste, and emissions.
3. Collaboration with external stakeholders:
   • Collaborate with external organizations for sustainability activities.
   • Explore potential partnerships to drive innovation and community impact.
