Misinformation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

As part of its commitment to social responsibility, Sohar University, in collaboration with Al-Salam Sports and Cultural Team and the newly forming Khor Al-Siyabi Sports and Cultural Team, organized an intellectual lecture titled “Misinformation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” on the evening of Friday, May 9, 2025. The lecture was delivered by Professor Jabbar Youssef, a faculty member at the faculty of Computing and Information Technology at the university, and held at the Khor Al-Siyabi Community Majlis.

The event was attended by Dr. Hamdan bin Suleiman Al-Fazari, Vice Chancellor of Sohar University, Sheikh Saeed bin Humaid Al-Shibli, as well as a number of local dignitaries, sheikhs, sports team leaders and members, and a group of intellectuals and community members.

The lecture addressed the global challenges emerging from the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technologies and discussed the concept of “misinformation” or digital rumors in the modern era, while also highlighting the significant opportunities these technologies offer in various sectors.

This initiative is part of a series of community engagement activities organized by Sohar University, reflecting its dedication to building strong bridges between the university and the local community. Through such events, the university aims to provide relevant and up-to-date knowledge that enhances public awareness and aligns with its strategic vision to serve society and support the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
