As part of its commitment to developing academic programs that keep pace with global developments and the evolving needs of the labor market, Sohar University, represented by the Faculty of Business, has launched the Diploma of Business in Financial Technology. The program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills required to succeed in one of the world’s fastest-growing industries, combining digital technologies with modern financial services.

The program responds to the rapid transformation of the financial sector and the growing demand for professionals with expertise in financial technology. It offers a learning experience that integrates academic knowledge with practical application, preparing graduates for careers in financial institutions, banks, and startups, while also providing a strong foundation for further academic studies in related disciplines.

The two-year diploma program, comprising 68 credit hours over four semesters, provides students with a robust foundation in finance, digital systems, programming, and data handling. It also develops analytical and problem-solving skills, fosters an entrepreneurial mindset, encourages adaptability and lifelong learning, and emphasizes professional ethics, integrity, and social responsibility in line with the demands of today’s financial technology landscape.

The curriculum includes a range of specialized courses covering the latest areas of financial technology, including Fundamentals of Financial Technology, Financial Institutions: Commercial Banks and Financial Technology, Database Systems, Financial Modeling, Venture Capital and Financial Innovation, and Advanced Programming Language (Python). In addition, students study core subjects in finance, economics, information technology, entrepreneurship, and quantitative reasoning, providing a comprehensive educational experience built around practical applications and real-world case studies.

The program adopts a variety of modern teaching and learning methods, including lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, guest lectures, student presentations, blended learning, self-directed learning, and practical projects. Assessment methods include examinations, coursework, group work, and individual and group presentations. Students also gain hands-on experience using industry-relevant software and technologies to strengthen their technical and professional competencies and prepare them to address the evolving challenges of the fintech sector.
