SU Forge Partnerships with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) Malaysia

UTP and UTM Visit

In bid to strengthen international collaborations with Malaysia and to foster academic collaboration, Sohar University Vice Chancellor Dr. Hamdan Al-Fazari visited Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru, the premier Malaysia’s Technological Research University and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), the top private university in Malaysia.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s (UTM) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk. Ir. Ts. Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, along with Prof. Dr. Rosli Bin Md. Illias Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim, received SU delegates and discussed academic opportunities in research and innovation and teaching and learning initiatives. Professor Rosli highlighted the significance of the SU team’s visit, expressing optimism about the positive impact it would have on research collaborations in renewable energy, digitalisation, accounting programs, and the opportunities of international exchanges and academic talent training opportunities. The meeting was closed with a visit to UTM Hybrid Learning Spaces, the Centre of Excellence of Membrane Technology and the Honey Bee Hive Farm Project.  This visit laid the groundwork for a promising educational partnership, fostering cultural understanding and academic collaboration between the two institutions.

In Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), SU was welcomed by the Vice Chancellor of UTP Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim bin Abdul Mutalib. The collaboration reached a significant milestone with the signing of a formal cooperation agreement-MoU to materialize the collaboration. Both partners agreed on developing matching grant across the Faculty of Business and Faculty of Engineering in areas of social innovation and renewable energy. This will consists of various research commitments inclusive of multi-diverse expertise. The discussion entailed on staff and student mobility, and to expand UTP relations in the upcoming Conference of World Engineering Science Congress ESCON in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia on the 10th September 2024.
