As part of its preparations for the 2026/2027 academic year, Sohar University, represented by the Human Resources Department – Staff Development Section, organized Staff Development Week from 1 to 3 September 2026, with the participation of academic and administrative staff. The initiative forms part of the University’s ongoing efforts to enhance the capabilities of its human resources and ensure a well-prepared working and learning environment to welcome students at the beginning of the first semester.
The week begins with a presentation by Dr. Hamdan bin Suleiman Al Fazari, Vice Chancellor of Sohar University, highlighting the University’s achievements over the past year and outlining the plans to be implemented during the current academic year. This is followed by a session on enhancing employee engagement and building institutional loyalty, delivered by Ra’ad Rukn Jawi/ Mustafa Al-Rabaani Sultan Qaboos Air Academy.
The first day also features the recognition of a number of employees through the Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Outstanding Achievement, Vice Chancellor’s Outstanding Teaching Award, and Vice Chancellor’s Outstanding Achievement Award in Research, Innovation, and Knowledge Transfer. In addition, employees who have completed 10 and 20 years of service are honoured in recognition of their dedication and valuable contributions to the University’s development.
A dedicated training track for academic staff focuses on a range of topics aimed at enhancing the quality of teaching and the student experience. For administrative staff, the program features a series of workshops designed to strengthen employees’ professional and personal skills. And as part of the week’s activities, the University is also organizing a comprehensive orientation program for newly appointed academic and administrative staff.
Commenting on Staff Development Week, Dr. Maryam Al Amri, Director of the Human Resources Department, said:
“Staff Development Week forms part of Sohar University’s preparations for the new academic year and reflects the importance the University places on continuous investment in human capital as a fundamental element in ensuring the quality of education and university services. Through this program, the University seeks to enhance the readiness of its academic and administrative staff, develop teaching and professional practices, and strengthen integration across its various units. These efforts contribute to providing an outstanding university experience and a stimulating learning environment.”
