World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026

As part of its efforts to promote awareness of the importance of a safe and healthy work environment, Sohar University, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour Oman, is organizing the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026 event on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, at the University campus.

The event was held under the patronage of Mr. Yousef Al Rasbi, Assistant Director General at the Directorate General of Labour in North Al Batinah Governorate, with the participation of a number of specialists and relevant entities. This reflects the shared commitment to strengthening a culture of occupational safety across various work environments.

The event aims to enhance awareness of the psychological and social work environment by highlighting psychosocial factors such as work pressure, task organization, role clarity, and their impact on employees’ health, safety, and professional performance. It also promotes a comprehensive concept of occupational safety and health, emphasizing that safety extends beyond physical risks to include mental well-being and the overall quality of the work environment, thereby fostering a healthy and sustainable workplace. In addition, the event focuses on developing knowledge and skills in managing psychosocial risks by equipping participants with the tools needed to identify, manage, and prevent such risks in the workplace.

The program includes several key sessions and specialized discussions, beginning with an opening address by Mr. Mohammed Al Beriki, Head of HSE at Sohar University.

The event feature a keynote speech by Dr. Mohammed Al Alawi, Assistant Professor and Consultant in Psychiatry at Sultan Qaboos University, addressing the health and psychological aspects related to the work environment. In addition, a number of research papers and presentations will be delivered by Sohar University, the Ministry of Labour, and the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority Oman, showcasing best practices and experiences in occupational safety and health.

The event also include an accompanying exhibition highlighting the latest initiatives and technologies related to occupational safety.

This initiative reflects Sohar University’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with government entities and raising awareness about the importance of implementing occupational safety and health standards, contributing to the creation of a safe and sustainable work environment and supporting the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
