We are Oman

Sohar University was honoured with first place nationally in the We are Oman award for the best higher education institution excelling in the implementation of the educational awareness programme for the academic year 2024/2025. The award was presented during a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, which reaffirmed its belief in the importance of academic and extracurricular activities in shaping and developing students’ personalities, as well as instilling values of citizenship, Omani identity, authenticity, innovation, and creativity among higher education students.

The competition consisted of two main categories: an institutional category and a student category. The institutional category comprised seven areas: the State Administrative Apparatus and Oman Vision 2040; Future Skills and Nurturing Talent; Promoting Islamic Values and Omani Citizenship; Voluntary Work, Social Responsibility, and Belonging; Entrepreneurship, Financial Culture, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution; an awareness plan utilising social media platforms; and programmes for nurturing talent, blood donation campaigns, and anti-drug initiatives. The student category included five primary fields: intellectual, literary, artistic, creative media content, and voluntary work.

The announcement of Sohar University’s victory was made at a ceremony held at Al Bustan Palace Hotel, under the patronage of HH Dr. Khamil bin Fahd Al Said, Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, and attended by Her Excellency Professor Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqiya, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, alongside presidents of universities and colleges and representatives from higher education institutions.

Sohar University achieved an exceptional accomplishment by winning seven awards out of thirteen across five categories. It secured first and third places in We are Oman Student Volunteering Award, respectively. Additionally, it won first and second places in the podcast competition. The university also claimed third place in the traditional art category for the artwork, along with second and third places in digital art.

These results reflect the substantial efforts undertaken by Sohar University to support its students and develop their creative and intellectual talents through diverse programmes and innovative initiatives aimed at building a well-rounded Omani personality—one that is aware of its history, proud of its national identity, and open to the opportunities of the future. The programme strives to promote positive thinking among students, strengthen national belonging and responsible citizenship, foster pride in the nation’s historical and modern achievements, and raise awareness about the structure of the state, government objectives, and Oman Vision 2040.

To achieve the programme’s goals, Sohar University implemented more than 222 internal events and external participations in youth-focused activities and initiatives aligned with the objectives of We are Oman educational awareness programme.
