Sohar University Celebrates Omani Women’s Day with a Comprehensive Programme under the Theme: ‘Omani Women and their Impact on Society’

Affirming the pioneering and influential role women play in the national development process, Sohar University celebrated Omani Women’s Day on campus under the patronage of Dr. Fatima Al Balushi, Advisor to the Secretary-General for Museum Affairs at the National Museum.

The ceremony was opened with a welcoming address by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Hamdan Al Fazari, who reviewed the status of Omani women within the University and their growing contributions across various fields. He praised their continuous dedication and vital role in building society and furthering the progress of the nation.

The welcome speech was followed by a poem titled ‘The Glorious Women of Oman’ by the poet Dr. Saif Al Hinai, Manager of Student Activities at Sohar University. Students from the Golden Private School in Sohar also presented a student performance for the occasion.

The programme also included the keynote speech delivered by Dr. Fatima Al Balushi, in which she highlighted the journey of Omani women, starting from their historical participation in the nation’s renaissance to their active presence in the contemporary cultural, social, and economic scene. Students from Sohar University also presented an inspiring musical piece that reflected the spirit of celebration and pride in women.

The celebration programme featured a panel discussion titled ‘Omani Women and their Impact on Society’. The session was moderated by Dr. Aida Al Qasmi, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education and Arts, and featured an elite group of female staff members from the University: Ms. Zalikha Al Shizawi from the Faculty of Education and Arts, Dr. Amal Al Saadi from the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Hanan Al Balushi from the Faculty of Business, and Dr. Raya Al Raisi from the Faculty of Education and Arts. The speakers shared their personal experiences, professional challenges, and visions for the future of Omani women, emphasising the importance of their scientific, professional, and social empowerment, considering them essential partners in shaping tomorrow.
