On Thursday, April 18, 2024, Sohar University organized the 7th Sohar University Research Conference under the title “Consolidating National Priorities Towards Global Reach” on campus, under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Saif Al-Hiddabi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation for Research and Innovation. This comprised the presentation of 116 research papers in five themes, with 234 research submissions from 12 different countries across the world, 116 of which were selected.

The main topics of the conference were summarized around 5 themes: The first theme, Connecting Communities, had 27 research articles. The second theme addressed environmental sustainability, which had 24 research publications. The third theme had 18 research articles labeled Enterprise and Industry. The emerging and advanced technologies theme also includes a number of 15 research articles. The fifth theme featured 19 research publications, which included student research results.

International and local students and academics presented research projects, including Sohar University students and academics, as well as students, academics, and experts from other governmental and private institutions in the Sultanate.

The conference began with the opening speech by Dr. Hamdan bin Sulaiman Al-Fazari, the Vice Chancellor of the University, in which he said, “Research is a fundamental component of any successful university and of any successful country as it is critical to the economic and social well-being of society.

Research at the country and university level is crucial for driving innovation, economic growth, and societal progress. Countries and universities that prioritize research invest in the development of new knowledge, new technologies, and solutions that can address pressing challenges and improve the quality of life. By fostering a culture of research, countries and universities can attract top talent, drive collaboration across disciplines, and contribute to global knowledge exchange. Ultimately, investing in research at the country and university level is essential for driving long-term sustainable development and ensuring a prosperous future for all.”

Then came the speech of the keynote speaker, Professor Khalifa Al Jabri from Sultan Qaboos University. Professor Ghassan Al-Kindi, Pro VC for Research and Innovation at the University, also gave a presentation on Research and Innovation at Sohar University, followed by speeches from the partner from Grace Laboratories, Mrs. Rahma Al-Badri and Mr. Majid Al-Hinai, General Manager of Intaj Sohar. The opening ceremony of the conference concluded with a Word of Thanks, Professor Kelvin Joseph Bwalya, Head of Research Development at Sohar University.
