Sohar University Faculty of Engineering Organizes Workshop on Sustainable Construction Materials in Collaboration with Petroleum Development Oman

Workshop on Sustainable Construction Materials

The Faculty of Engineering at Sohar University, represented by the Civil Engineering program, organized a specialized workshop on sustainable construction materials in collaboration with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), as part of efforts to strengthen partnerships between academia and industry and support sustainability trends in the construction sector.

The workshop witnessed the participation of a distinguished group of civil engineering specialists and professionals from the industrial sector, alongside students from Sohar University and several other higher education institutions. This provided an interactive platform for exchanging expertise and strengthening the link between academic knowledge and practical applications.

The workshop focused on the utilization of industrial by-products—particularly sulphur—in concrete and asphalt applications, highlighting practical pathways toward low-carbon construction practices based on circular economy principles in the Sultanate of Oman. The program also included site visits to the Sustainable Construction Materials Laboratory (SCM2Lab) and the Research Center at Sohar University, where participants explored research models, pilot projects, and innovative solutions applied in real-world settings.
