Sohar University Student Wins National Award in the “Upgrade” Program by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation

The Faculty of Computing and Information Technology at Sohar University has achieved a new national milestone following the victory of student Nahia Nasser Al-Hamdani in the eighth edition of the “Upgrade” Program, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation under the Emerging Technologies track. The national program aims to transform innovative student projects into competitive start-ups in the modern technology market.

Student Nahia Al-Hamdani won for her innovative project “Sensation Glasses – Empowering the Blind and Visually Impaired through Smart Assistive Eyewear,” which seeks to develop advanced technological solutions that enable individuals with visual impairments to navigate their daily lives with greater confidence and independence. The project was supervised by Dr. Marwan Al-Sharaa from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology.

This achievement reflects Sohar University’s commitment to strengthening a culture of innovation, applied research, and entrepreneurship among its students by supporting student projects and encouraging participation in national programs aimed at developing smart solutions aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and its aspirations to build a sustainable, knowledge-based economy driven by technology and creativity.
