As part of its efforts to expand strategic partnerships in scientific research and advanced technologies, and to strengthen its contribution to building a knowledge-based economy, Sohar University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ETCO SPACE on Wednesday, 28 January 2028. The signing took place during the Middle East Space Conference 2026, held under the patronage of HH Sayyid Dr. Kamil bin Fahd Al Said, Secretary General at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.

The MoU aims to establish a comprehensive framework for cooperation between the two parties in areas including space applications, Earth observation, remote sensing technologies, and satellite data analytics, in addition to supporting joint scientific research, exchanging expertise, and building national capacities in the space sector and related technologies.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Sohar University by Dr. Hamdan Al Fazari, Vice-Chancellor of the University, and on behalf of ETCO SPACE by Dr. Abdulaziz Al Swaai, Chief Executive Officer of the company.

The areas of cooperation include developing joint solutions for satellite imagery analysis, exploring joint business opportunities in the satellite data analytics market, and leveraging Oman’s Earth observation ground station to maximize downstream activities. The agreement also promotes knowledge exchange, training, and scientific research through the company’s regional and international partners in the space sector.

The University affirmed that this agreement aligns with its strategic direction to support research and innovation, and to link educational outcomes with promising future sectors—particularly space and geospatial technologies—thereby contributing to the qualification of students and researchers and enhancing their readiness to participate in high-value national and international projects.

The signing of this MoU represents a qualitative addition to Sohar University’s journey in expanding its research, industrial, and space partnerships, and in reinforcing its role as an active academic institution supporting innovation and future technologies at both national and regional levels.
