In a strategic move to boost the capabilities of its administrative leadership, Sohar University organized a specialized training programme for its executive leaders in Malaysia in collaboration with UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur. This took place during the first week of August 2025.
This programme is part of the University’s plans to develop human competencies and enhance institutional effectiveness, thereby contributing to increased performance efficiency and achieving organisational excellence.
The programme targeted 10 administrative and academic officials from various departments, directorates, and faculties across the University. It combined high-impact executive learning with the practical application of leadership and innovation practices.
The programme provided participants with the opportunity to gain contemporary leadership insights for effective management in a dynamic and complex environment, focusing on innovation and the adaptive leadership approach. The five-day experience varied between theoretical learning, field visits, meetings, and discussions on various topics.
The programme’s goals included equipping participants with the necessary strategic leadership skills to navigate complexities, enabling leaders to innovate, and fostering a culture of creativity within the University.
Furthermore, participants were introduced to the Blue Ocean Strategy, an innovative methodology aimed at creating new competitive spaces and formulating unique strategies that support excellence.
An opportunity was also provided for benchmarking in various administrative and academic areas at the host university, as UCSI is one of Malaysia’s leading academic institutions in innovation and sustainable practices. A familiarisation tour was conducted of the host university’s facilities and departments to promote professional and knowledge exchange and benefit from best practices and procedures.
In coordination with UCSI management, several field and introductory visits were conducted to major historical and archaeological landmarks in Kuala Lumpur.
Additionally, a pre-arranged field visit was made to the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), one of the most important industrial institutions producing Malaysian palm oil, which is a major commodity and key source of income for Malaysia, with the country being one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of the product. These visits had a significant effect on enriching the programme and enhancing the participants’ overall training experience. This initiative is part of the annual series of training initiatives launched by the University within its yearly training plan, aiming to empower staff in their respective fields and equip them with modern skills that align with the requirements of higher education and the University’s future directions.
