International Symposium on Arab and International Scientific Cooperation

As part of Oman’s Strategic Plan for Scientific Research and Innovation 2040, and in line with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation’s commitment to fostering collaboration between Omani research institutions and their counterparts at the Arab and international levels, Sohar University, in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation and Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils (FASRC), will host the International Symposium on Arab and International Scientific Cooperation in Research and Innovation. The event will take place on Monday and Tuesday, February 24–25, 2025, at the university’s campus.

The opening ceremony will be held under the patronage of H.H Al-Sayyid Mohammed Thuwaini Al Said, in the presence of H.E Prof. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, along with esteemed members of the State Council, ambassadors from various countries, and representatives from Arab and international organizations. Additionally, the symposium will bring together distinguished academics, researchers, and experts from across the Arab world and beyond, as well as specialists from higher education institutions and research and innovation-related organizations within Oman.

The opening program will feature a keynote speech by HE Prof. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, followed by addresses from Prof Abdelmajid Benamara, ecretary-General of the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils (FASRC). and Dr. Hamdan Sulaiman Al Fazari, VC of Sohar University.

The symposium will also feature distinguished speakers and experts from prestigious academic institutions, including representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Association of Arab Universities, Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and Agence universitaire de la Francophonie. Additionally, representatives from major international academic publishing houses, such as Elsevier, will participate.

This international symposium reflects Sohar University’s ongoing efforts to enhance the role of research and innovation in achieving sustainable development and strengthening academic collaboration at both the Arab and global levels.
