The student Najd Al-Muqbali from the Faculty of Law at Sohar University achieved a remarkable accomplishment by winning first place in the “Architectural Footprint” category of the “Imprints” competition launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning in the Sultanate of Oman. The student presented an innovative design idea that contributes to the development of the city and enhances its sustainability, reflecting the creativity of Omani youth in finding urban solutions that align with sustainable development standards.
The participation of students in these competitions stems from the importance of developing youth skills and honing their abilities to compete in local and international arenas. It also contributes to fostering a spirit of creativity and innovation and enhancing critical thinking, in line with the sustainable development goals that call for the creation of sustainable cities and communities, and encourage the promotion of quality education and applied scientific research.
These achievements align with Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on empowering youth and their role in achieving sustainable development through innovation and modern technology. The university also takes pride in such initiatives aimed at graduating qualified cadres capable of making effective contributions to the development and progress of the Sultanate.
It is worth mentioning that the “Basamat” competition aims to engage Omani youth in the design and development of Sultan Haitham City across five main areas: architectural, artistic, technological, environmental, and cultural and social. This initiative seeks to stimulate creativity and enhance innovation among Omani youth to contribute to building sustainable cities that reflect the authentic Omani identity and keep pace with modern developments.
