Sohar University Launches Staff Development Week for the Second Semester of the Academic Year 2025/2026

Sohar University launched today, Monday, 5 January 2026, the activities of the Staff Development Week for the academic year 2025/2026 (Second Semester), organized by the HRD and running from 5 to 7 January 2026. The event witnesses wide participation from academic and administrative staff, reflecting the University’s commitment to enhancing professional competencies and advancing institutional performance.

The opening ceremony featured a keynote address by Dr. Hamdan Al Fazari, Vice Chancellor of Sohar University, in which he welcomed staff members and expressed his appreciation for their efforts during the first semester. He highlighted key student achievements, staff accomplishments, as well as institutional milestones and rankings attained by the University during the first semester, and emphasized the University’s institutional plan for the second semester.

The first day’s program included a series of specialized sessions, notably a session on lessons learned from preparation for institutional assessment and academic program evaluation, in addition to a session on global engagement with local relevance, focusing on empowering university staff towards institutional excellence, in collaboration with international academic partners.

The week continues through multiple tracks, including the academic, administrative, and leadership tracks, addressing contemporary topics such as integrating research into teaching, stress management and productivity, cybersecurity culture, artificial intelligence awareness, design thinking, succession planning, and leadership development programs for second-line leaders.

The Staff Development Week concludes with the implementation of the New Staff Induction Program, which aims to familiarize new employees with university policies, procedures, electronic systems, and services, contributing to their smooth integration into the university work environment and enhancing their professional readiness from day one.

The organization of this week reaffirms Sohar University’s commitment to continuous development, capacity building, and keeping pace with best practices in higher education, positively impacting the quality of academic and administrative outcomes and serving the wider community.
