Sohar University Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Seven Seas Company to Promote Scientific Research in the Energy Sector

In a step that reflects Sohar University’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with the industrial sector, the University signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at its campus with Seven Seas Petroleum Company, headquartered in Muscat. The agreement aims to support research, innovation, and professional training in the energy sector. The signing ceremony was held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Busaidi, Wali of Sohar.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Hamdan bin Suleiman Al Fazari, Vice Chancellor of Sohar University, and Mr. Harith Al-Suleimany, Executive Director of Seven Seas Company.

This memorandum aims to establish a strategic collaboration between Sohar University and Seven Seas Petroleum focused on Industry innovation and knowledge transfer through applied research, consultancy, and technology-driven solutions. It also seeks to enhance workforce skills through training in advanced future skills aligned with the needs of the energy sector in Oman.

The partnership focuses on several areas including the oil and gas sector, automation, and sustainability. It also aims to promote in-country value (ICV) by developing national competencies and expertise, contributing to the building of a knowledge-based economy.

The agreement will provide Sohar University students and researchers with unique opportunities to engage in various projects and develop technical solutions that meet national industry needs and contribute to advancing industrial development in the Sultanate of Oman.

As part of the long-term vision for this collaboration, both parties are exploring the possibility of establishing the “Marsa Knowledge Center for Energy” at Sohar University. The center would serve as a collaborative platform for academic-industrial engagement, research, and advanced training in energy innovations, smart industrial automation, and sustainable oil and gas technologies, with a particular focus on the Marsa LNG project.

This agreement will further reinforce the University’s local status as a leading center for research, development, and innovation, which is one of the key pillars of Sohar University’s strategy.
