On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Sohar University concluded the International Symposium on Arab and International Scientific Cooperation in Research and Innovation. The two-day event, held on the university campus, featured participation from a distinguished group of academics, researchers, and experts from various Arab and non-Arab countries.
The second day of the symposium included specialized scientific sessions. The first session focused on research ethics and artificial intelligence and was chaired by Professor Ahmed Hassan Fahl, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab Council for Scientific Research. Participants discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on academic publishing and the importance of establishing ethical standards for its use in scientific research.
The second session was a panel discussion on Arab and international cooperation in scientific research, moderated by Dr. Salah Al-Zadjali. A group of experts explored mechanisms to enhance research collaboration between Arab countries and global academic institutions.
The symposium’s final statement included several key recommendations, the most notable of which were:
- Expressing gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and to the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation for their generous support and patronage of scientific research and innovation.
- Extending thanks to HH Sayyid Mohammed bin Thuwaini Al Said for honoring the symposium with his presence and patronage.
- Commending the remarkable progress and the emphasis that Oman Vision 2040 places on scientific research and innovation.
- Recommending the activation of cooperation opportunities between Arab research and development institutions and their international counterparts.
- Strengthening educational and research partnerships between Arab and Francophone universities.
- Encouraging the participation of research institutions and researchers from Arab countries in programs and initiatives of the Union.
The symposium was marked by significant international attendance and insightful scientific discussions, reflecting Sohar University’s commitment to fostering research collaboration on both Arab and international levels. The event concluded with the honoring of participants and international speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions to the success of this distinguished academic gathering.
