The Learning Resources Center at Sohar University celebrated the official opening of the Little Library during a ceremony held under the patronage of Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Maqbali, Pro Vice Chancellor for Administration and Financial Affairs, in the presence of faculty members and individuals interested in reading and literature.
This initiative aims to foster a culture of reading and raise awareness about its importance in developing critical thinking and creativity among young children in the local community. The Little Library represents a valuable addition to the Learning Resources Center’s facilities, providing an inspiring environment that encourages free reading and knowledge exchange.
The opening ceremony featured a workshop titled “How to Raise a Child Who Loves Reading?” delivered by Ms. Iman Al-Owfi, a certified trainer from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. Another workshop, “Loving Books and Reading,” was presented by Ms. Iman Al-Kindi. The event also included a variety of children’s activities designed to cultivate a love of reading at an early age and encourage interactive engagement with books in creative ways.
The program further included an inspiring interactive session with young reader Nawwar Al-Ansari, who has achieved top placements in the “Star of Reading” competition in North Al Batinah and has participated in the Arab Reading Challenge. Additionally, the event featured a segment titled “When Letters Grow with Us” presented by Ms. Najia Al-Masoudi, winner of first place at the national level in the Short Story category of the Omani Writers and Authors Award.
The University emphasized that the opening of the Little Library reflects its commitment to promoting learning, nurturing a love of reading, and strengthening the connection between higher education and community knowledge. The project highlights Sohar University’s dedication to its cultural and social responsibilities and reinforces its role as a leading academic institution contributing to building a creative and reading-oriented society.
