Reaffirming the importance of international collaboration in research and fostering innovation in higher education, Sohar University, in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) – Regional Office in Doha and the National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, is set to launch the Artificial Intelligence Conference: Navigating Digital Skills and Decent Work Conference alongside the Sohar University Research Conference 8 (SURC8). The event will take place on Sunday and Monday, February 9-10, 2025, at the university campus, under the patronage of Her Excellency Professor Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation.

The first day of the event will feature discussions on key topics related to artificial intelligence and its impact on education and the labor market, including: Ethics and Rational AI, Readiness of Higher Education Educators in the AI Era, The Future of Skills and Job Transformation with AI, Ethical AI for Lifelong Learning, AI the Future of Skills and Job Transformation, ESCWA Skills Monitoring Tool, and Applications of AI in Oman.

The second day will host the 8th edition of the Sohar University Research Conference (SURC8), featuring 4 keynote speeches and 10 research parallel sessions attended by researchers, students and practitioners from inductry, with opportunities for both face to face and virtual participation.

This research event underscores Sohar University’s commitment to international collaboration and scientific research, further solidifying its global profile enhancing its research and innovation thrust of Sohar University strategic plan. It also reflects the university’s ongoing efforts to cultivate an inspiring research environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and sustainable development.
