Health-Promoting Higher Education Institutions Initia

In an achievement reflecting its continuous commitment to providing a healthy and sustainable university environment, Sohar University secured third place at the Gold Level among universities across the Sultanate in the Health-Promoting Higher Education Institutions Initiative. This is one of the leading national initiatives launched by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, aiming to disseminate and embed comprehensive health concepts within higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.

This initiative is part of an integrated national vision that seeks to integrate physical, psychological, and social health concepts into university policies and practices, transforming the university campus into a supportive environment that enhances the quality of life for students, academic staff, and administrative staff alike.

The University has implemented a number of awareness programmes, community initiatives, and health workshops, in addition to adopting health-supportive policies across various facilities, including healthy nutrition, physical activity, psychological support, and providing a safe and stimulating study and work environment. It has also actively participated in national campaigns in collaboration with health institutions, extending its impact both on and off campus.

This achievement reflects the University’s commitment to its strategy of community empowerment and sustainable development, aligning with Oman Vision 2040, which emphasises the importance of promoting health, well-being, and quality of life across all sectors, including higher education.
