Sohar University Celebrates the Glorious National Day with a Cultural Evening that Embodies National Pride and Strengthens Community Engagement

Glorious National Day

Sohar University celebrated the Glorious National Day with a special national evening titled “Operetta: The Epic of Al-Busaidi Glory,” held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Al-Busaidi, Wali of Sohar, and attended by officials, academics, students, and members of the community.

The celebration reflects the University’s commitment to promoting values of citizenship and national belonging, and to deepening awareness of Oman’s rich history and ongoing development journey. The operetta presented artistic scenes that showcased Oman’s bright historical legacy, the modern renaissance, and the pivotal role of the Al-Busaidi dynasty in shaping the country’s enduring achievements.

Held in the University Theatre, the operetta opened with a poetic introduction performed by students Issa Al-Kaabi and Muneer Al-Naseri, followed by a theatrical scene titled “The Call for Help by the People of Basra to Imam Ahmed Al-Busaidi,” performed by the Theatre, Cinema, and Arts Group.

The first segment, titled “The Founding of the Al-Busaidi State,” featured traditional Omani arts including Al-Azi and Al-Razha. The second segment, “The Blessed Renaissance,” focused on the era of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said — may he rest in peace — and showcased the traditional Al-Ayyala performance. The final segment, titled “The Renewed Renaissance,”highlighted the era of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik — may God protect him. The operetta concluded with the fourth segment, “Oman’s Celebrations,” featuring an energetic performance of Al-Razfa.

The event witnessed a large turnout from various segments of society, who interacted enthusiastically with the meaningful patriotic messages conveyed through the artistic performances.

Sohar University affirmed that organizing such celebrations aligns with its vision of enhancing national awareness among students and enriching their university experience through cultural and community events that strengthen Omani identity and underline the University’s role as an active partner in serving and developing the community.
