About Career Guidance and Alumni Services (CGAS)

Career Guidance and Alumni Services (CGAS) at Sohar University serve as a pivotal role in supporting students and graduates as they transition from academic level to professional life. Through a diverse range of services and programs, the section empowers individuals to define their goals, enhance their personal and professional skills, and enter the job market with confidence. These services not only strengthen their competencies but also equip them to excel in their chosen careers, enhance their capabilities, and prepare them for their career fields.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support students in discovering and aligning opportunities that match their interests, values, and abilities.
  • Provide proper advice for students and graduates on the existing career opportunities.
  • Work to facilitate the students and graduates to obtain suitable employment or internship opportunities.
  • Conduct workshops and advisory sessions to help students and graduates explore diverse career paths and opportunities.
  • Establish strong partnerships with companies and organizations to create valuable internship and employment opportunities for students and graduates.
  • Organize career fairs/training fairs and other related events to create direct contact between students and the various employers.

Services of Career Guidance

Internship

CGAS provides students and graduates with a wide range of internship opportunities to better prepare them for the labor market. Students and graduates should seek internships that align with their needs and provide feedback for improvements. The internship duration should be at least one month.

  • Summer Internship.

Workshops and Activities

CGAS organize and offer a various of workshops in cooperation with the partners and experts in the field. In order to empower students and graduates and provide them with all the skills required for the labor market, Career Guidance And Alumni Services provide many training courses, workshops and lectures that are held throughout the academic year.

Assessment Tests

CGAS raises awareness among students and graduates about assessment tests, providing insights into the skills and experiences required for recruitment and training plans. These assessments also help students choose the specialization that best suits their strengths and interests.

Alumni Services

Believing in the importance of maintaining strong connections with the university’s graduates, Career Guidance and Alumni Services offers a range of services and activities designed to engage alumni, update their information, and ensure continuous communication.

  1. Maintaining a comprehensive alumni database, with regular updates to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  2. Developing a dedicated alumni portal for alumni to facilitate communication and engagement.
  3. Establishing the Sohar University Alumni Association to strengthen alumni networks.
  4. Organizing an annual Alumni Day event to celebrate and connect graduates.
  5. Publishing the annual newsletter, The Voice of the Alumni, to share updates and stories.
  6. Showcasing the success stories of alumni to inspire and highlight their achievements.
  7. Issuing alumni cards to foster a sense of belonging and provide exclusive benefits.

Employer Engagement

  1. Establish and build long-term relationships with employers.
  2. Participating in networking events or career fairs/Training Fair where employers can interact with students and graduates.
  3. Encourage employers to offer internships or mentorship opportunities, allowing students to gain real-world experience and career guidance from professionals in the field.
  4. Participate in regular surveys or meetings at Sohar university to understand their hiring needs and explore ways they can contribute to improve career services.
  5. Organize field visits for university students to gain practical insights into various industries.
  6. Conduct mock interviews and CV clinic sessions for students and graduates to enhance their job readiness.

Main Events

Training Fair

The aim is to establish a platform for direct and meaningful communication between students and a diverse range of employers, enabling them to explore and learn about future training and employment opportunities in the job market. Furthermore, the event features a series of workshops and lectures focused on career guidance to equip participants with valuable insights and skills.

Alumni Day

The event is organized annually with the aim of maintaining communication between the university and its Alumni, learning about their career paths, and exploring opportunities for collaboration in supporting and empowering students.

Business Partners’ Gathering

The university organizes a Business Partners’ Gathering to enhance collaboration with its key partners every two years. This event will honor organizations that have supported the Career Guidance and Alumni Services (CGAS), colleges, and other university units by providing internship and job opportunities, sponsoring activities, or delivering workshops. This event aims to foster business engagement and recognize the valuable contributions of partners.
