As part of its commitment to strengthening partnerships with the industrial sector and supporting promising Omani engineers through community engagement and lifelong learning programmes, Sohar University, in collaboration with Almasar Institute and Intaj Sohar, organised a training programme entitled “Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.” The programme was held at the university’s campus from 24 to 28 August 2025.
The programme was aimed at recent graduates, job seekers, and those interested in engineering fields. It focused on developing technical skills in advanced manufacturing, and building capabilities in product and prototype design, thereby contributing to the support of the industrial sector and expanding the horizons of modern engineering business.
The programme included two main training tracks. The first, Advanced Manufacturing, featured an introductory tour of Intaj Sohar’s facilities to familiarise participants with the different departments and workshops, with a focus on safety procedures. The training also covered measurement tools, reading engineering drawings, and reverse engineering using CMM measuring machines and blue light scanning technology. Participants gained experience in designing moulds using 2D and 3D software, learning about raw materials and cutting tools for CNC machines, in addition to hands-on training on 3D printing techniques. The second track included a number of workshops, namely a welding simulation workshop, which began with a theoretical introduction to the machines and their types, followed by basic and then advanced practical training in the welding simulation hall.
This programme is part of Sohar University’s efforts to serve the community and promote lifelong learning by empowering promising Omani engineers with practical and theoretical skills that align with the needs of the local job market. It also enhances cooperation with the industrial sector, contributing to sustainable development in the Sultanate.
