On the evening of Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Sohar University inaugurated the 13th edition of the Sohar University Theater Festival at its campus, February 28, 2025.
The opening ceremony was under the patronage of Dr. Hamdan bin Suleiman Al-Fazari, Vice Chansellor of the University, in the presence of Dr. Awadh Al-Maamari, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs, along with a number of officials, staff members, theater enthusiasts, and students.
The festival is organized as part of the university’s commitment to enriching the student experience and enhancing cultural and artistic activities, in alignment with its five-year strategy (2023-2028), which aims to support student talents and provide a platform for creativity and theatrical expression.
In his opening speech, Dr. Saif Al-Hinai, Manager of the Student Activities Department and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, stated: “The successes achieved by the Sohar University Theater Festival in its previous editions motivate us to move forward with pride in organizing future editions. We are proud of the progress and excellence demonstrated by Sohar University theater students, who have skillfully and masterfully woven the threads of their artistic journey.”
During the opening ceremony, the festival honored this year’s distinguished figure, Mr. Ahmed Al-Owaini, the former cultural activities officer at the university, who played a significant role in previous editions of the festival. Additionally, the judging panel and the critique committee were also recognized for their contributions.
Over the edition of four days, the festival will showcase six plays from six higher education institutions.
The festival serves as a unique opportunity to discover students’ theatrical talents, promote cultural and artistic exchange between academic institutions, and significantly contribute to enriching the theatrical scene in the Sultanate of Oman.
