As part of enhancing scientific research and supporting student innovation, Sohar University, represented by the Faculty of Education and Arts, organized the fifth Student Research Conference under the slogan “From Heritage to Modernity: Issues in Language, Education, and Literature Sciences,” on Monday, February 17, 2025, on the university campus, under the patronage of Prof. Ahmed Al-Kaied, Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology.

The conference attracted more than 90 researchers and experts from four educational institutions in the Sultanate, namely Sultan Qaboos University, Sohar University, Al Sharqiya University, and Dhofar University, reflecting the importance of this academic event in enhancing the exchange of knowledge and research experiences between students and academics.

The conference was inaugurated with a speech by Dr. Talal Al-Zaabi, the head of the Activities and Events Committee at the Faculty of Education and Arts, where he emphasized the importance of supporting students in scientific research and attracting researchers from various universities in the Sultanate to exchange knowledge and research ideas.

Followed by a speech from the keynote speaker, Dr. Ali Al-Mannai, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Education and Arts, who addressed the topic “Interdisciplinary Studies and Their Role in Enhancing Scientific Research: A Proposal for Developing the Research Hub as a Model,” where he reviewed the role of cognitive integration in improving the quality of scientific research.

The conference included five sessions that addressed a range of important research issues. These sessions discussed identity and heritage in contemporary Omani literature, innovative teaching methods in various fields of science, and new readings in language, literature, and education in the digital age. The sessions also reviewed issues of Omani poetry between tradition and modernity, the role of developed curricula in enhancing national identity, and strategies for teaching students with special needs, alongside applied approaches in modern linguistics and new perspectives in educational administration. This contributed to achieving the conference’s goals of advancing scientific research, enhancing critical thinking, and linking heritage, linguistic, and educational issues with contemporary changes.

The conference aims to empower students to develop their research skills and encourage them to contribute to scientific production. It also provides an academic platform for discussion and knowledge exchange among researchers from various disciplines. Additionally, it seeks to enhance interest in heritage, linguistic, and educational issues and connect them with contemporary changes, as well as to promote interdisciplinary studies that contribute to improving scientific research and elevating the quality of research outputs.

The organisation of such conferences falls within the strategic plan of Sohar University, which aims to enhance scientific research, enable students to acquire critical thinking and analytical skills, and connect academic outputs with the job market and community needs. These events also contribute to achieving Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on building a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation, research, and development.

In conclusion, the conference reflects the university’s commitment to providing an academic environment that fosters creativity and highlights contemporary scientific issues that contribute to the cognitive and professional development of its students and faculty members.
