Believing that student activities play a vital role in shaping university students’ personalities and refining their skills, Sohar University, represented by the Student Activities Department, organized the 22nd edition of Student Week on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the university campus.
The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Dr. Maryam bint Bal’arab Al-Nabhaniyah, the Director General of Private Universities and Colleges, in the presence of Dr. Hamdan bin Suleiman Al-Fazari, Vice Chancellor of Sohar University, along with university officials, staff, and students.
The Student Week aligns with the Strategic Plan 2023-2028, which emphasizes the student experience and preparing university students to become globally oriented citizens. The event includes a diverse range of activities in scientific, cultural, literary, artistic, sports, and volunteer fields. The program features workshops, lectures, competitions, and exhibitions, enriching the student experience. The activities will continue until Thursday, February 27, 2025.
The event commenced with a speech by Dr. Saif Al-Hinai, who stated:
“Student Week is an annual event where we explore students’ aspirations and ambitions in developing the activities of future Student Weeks, making them a distinctive part of their university life.”
This was followed by a visual presentation on student affairs, as well as student talent showcases, including a musical performance by the Qithara Club and a public speaking presentation on “Green Innovation: Visions for the Cities of Tomorrow” by members of the Public Speaking Club.
The event also featured the official opening of the exhibitions and student activity booths, including: Arts Exhibition, Photography Exhibition, Student Clubs and Societies Exhibition, Entrepreneurial Ideas Exhibition, Student Companies Exhibition, Scout and Guide Camp.
In conjunction with Student Week 22, the 13th edition of the Sohar University Theater Festival will take place from February 25-28, 2025, featuring performances by several higher education institutions across Oman.
This dynamic and interactive week underscores Sohar University’s commitment to fostering student engagement, creativity, and leadership, while enriching the overall university experience.
