LRC – Little Library

About

The Little Library is designed to provide a welcoming Children’s Reading Corner that encourages young readers to explore books, develop early literacy skills. It serves as a space that strengthens family involvement as well as promotes community engagement.

Objectives

  • Foster early literacy and support vocabulary, comprehension, and communication skills.
  • Encourage family engagement through shared reading and interactive activities.
  • Increase library visits by offering an appealing, child-friendly reading environment.
  • Support community building by providing a space for children and caregivers to interact and learn together.

Services and Activities

  • A curated collection of children’s books and stories.
  • Reading sessions and storytelling.
  • Simple educational and creative activities.
  • A safe and engaging reading environment designed for young learners.

Targeted Age Groups

  • Children (Ages 4–18).
  • Parents.

Operating Hours

  • Saturday: Dedicated to community visits (8:00 AM – 3:00 PM).
  • School Visits: Available on weekdays by prior arrangement.

Rules for the Little Library

Regulations of using the Little Library at Sohar University

In order to ensure a safe and suitable environment for children, the Learning Resources Center at Sohar University kindly requests adherence to the following regulations when using the Little Library:

  • The Little Library is designated for individuals aged 4 to 18 years, other age groups is not permitted.
  • A responsible adult must accompany the child at all times while using the corner; children may not be left without direct supervision.
  • Children aged 14 to 18 years may use the Learning Resources Center without an accompanying adult, provided that their visit does not exceed two hours at a time.
  • School visits must be coordinated in advance to ensure that all necessary arrangements are prepared.
  • Saturdays are reserved for individual and public visits from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • The Learning Resources Center assumes no liability for children during their presence in the LRC.
  • Parents or accompanying adults bear full responsibility for the child’s behavior while in the LRC.
  • All users of the Little Library are required to maintain quiet and order; running, shouting, or any inappropriate behavior that may disturb others or disrupt the center’s operations is strictly prohibited.
  • Books must be placed in the designated return carts after use.
  • Borrowing books from the Little Library to use outside the library is not permitted without staff approval.
  • Food and beverages are not allowed inside the LRC to maintain cleanliness and ensure the safety of all users.
  • Moving or rearranging furniture within the library is not allowed.
  • The center is not responsible for the loss of personal belongings.

Coordination and Communication

Schools can arrange a visit to the Little Library Corner by contacting the LRC in advance. The Centre may also send a direct invitation to the school to coordinate and schedule a suitable visit.
