General Entry Requirements

General Requirements

  • Completed the General Education Diploma in Oman, or equivalent (formerly called Secondary School Completion Certificate), and
  • Achieved the specified entry score.

Direct Entry to Academic Program

  1. English Language: An applicant can be exempted from the English component based on the following criteria:
    • IELTS score of at least 5.0 (with none of the four areas of writing, speaking, listening and reading below 4.5)
    • TOEFL Paper Based (PB) score of at least 500
    • TOEFL Internet Based (iBT) score of 58 at least
    • A minimum of 61 out of 100 percent is needed in the Sohar University English Placement Test
    • If an applicant has completed the GFP in another university or college recognized by Ministry of Higher Education, Research & Innovation (MOHERI).
  2. Computing: An applicant can be exempted from the Computing component of the GFP if they provide ICDL, IC3, Cambridge IT Certificate (in English), or any equivalent computing course taken at another institution recognized by the MOHERI (Transcript and course description should be provided). Alternatively, students can be exempted if they pass the entry test provided by the program for Computing with a minimum score of 66 out of 100.
  3. Mathematics: An applicant can be exempted from the Mathematics component if they provide any equivalent Mathematics course taken at another institution recognized by the MoHERI (Transcript and course description should be provided). Alternatively, applicants can be exempted if they pass the entry test provided by the program for Math with a minimum score of 66 out of 100.

How to Apply?

Applications for undergraduate must be submitted through the Admission Portal. Normally, the first semester begins in September, and the second semester begins in February.

  • الحصول على درجة 65% في الرياضيات المتقدمة أو الرياضيات التطبيقية، او الرياضيات البحتة، أو الرياضيات الأساسية، او الرياضيات.
  • ان يكون لائق صحيا لمهنة التدريس بتقرير طبي معتمد.
  • اجتياز المقابلة الشخصية.

  • أن يكون الطالب حاصلا على دبلوم التعليم العام أو ما يعادله بمعدل لا يقل عن 80%.
  • الحصول على نسبة 70% في الرياضة المدرسية.
  • ألا يزيد عمر المتقدم في 1 سبتمبر عن 23 سنة. (يجوز للكلية استثناء بعض الحالات بناء على نتائج اختبار القدرات الرياضية والفحص الطبي).
  • ان يكون لائق صحيا لمهنة التدريس بتقرير طبي معتمد.
  • اجتياز اختبار القدرات الرياضية والمقابلة الشخصية.

  • الحصول على نسبة 70% في الفيزياء أو الكيميا أو الاحياء.

بعد إجتياز الطالب جميع الإشتراطات ، يتم قبول الطلبة على أعلى المعدلات.

كلية التربية والآداب اللغة العربية وآدابها النجاح في دبلوم التعليم العام (الثانوية العامة سابقا) او مايعادلها وتحقيق علامة النجاح (50% او مايعادلها) وسيقوم الطلاب بدراسة مقررات الحاسوب ( IC3) ومقررات الرياضيات ( SET) من مقررات البرنامج التأسيسي في الكلية
كلية التربية والآداب بكالوريوس الآداب في اللغة العربية للناطقين بغيرها
  1. أن يكون المترشح حاصلا على شهادة الدبلوم العام أو ما يعادله.
  2. الحصول على المستوى المتوسط (B2) من الإطار المرجعي الأوروبي العام للغات (CEFR) أو ما يعادله شريطة ألا يكون مستواه أقل من (B2) في المهارات الأربع (الكتابة والقراءة والاستماع والتحدث).
  3. في حال عدم حصول المترشح على المستوى المطلوب في البند رقم (2) يمكنه الالتحاق بالدورات التأسيسية لتعلم اللغة العربية للناطقين بغيرها والخضوع للاختبار مرة أخرى.
  4. شهادة اجتياز الطالب اختبار IC3.
  5. شهادة اجتياز الطالب اختبار أوكسفورد للرياضيات Oxford Math Test.
  6. في حال عدم تحقيق الطالب أحد البنود ( 4، 5) فإن بإمكانه تقديم اختبار الحاسوب والرياضيات فور التحاقه بالبرنامج.
  • تحقيق المستوى المطلوب في البند رقم (2).
  • سيقوم الطلاب بدراسة مقررات الحاسوب (IC3) ومقررات الرياضيات ( SET) من مقررات البرنامج التأسيسي في الكلية في حالة عدم حصول الطالب على الشهادات المطلوبة.
كلية القانون القانون النجاح في دبلوم التعليم العام (الثانوية العامة سابقا) او مايعادلها وتحقيق علامة النجاح (50% او مايعادلها)
  • الحصول على درجة لا تقل عن ج ( 65% ) في اللغة العربية في امتحان دبلوم التعليم العام ، وفي حال عدم الحصول على هذه النسبة في اللغة العربية يجب على المتقدم ان يدرس مادة فن الكتابة والتعبير (ARBN1103) بالإضافة الى مادة مهارات اللغة العربية.
  • سيقوم الطلاب بدراسة مقررات الحاسوب ( IC3) ومقررات الرياضيات ( SET) من مقررات البرنامج التأسيسي في الكلية.

Required Documents

Applicants intending to enter SU undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, have to complete and submit the following documents:

  • A completed online/printed form, available at Admission and Registration Department.
  • General Diploma Certificate- Secondary School Certificate.
  • 2 Copies of National ID and passport.
  • 2 Attested copies of former/relevant transcripts and academic certificates.
  • 5 passport-size photographs
  • A copy of language proficiency certificate, where applicable.
  • A copy of experience certificate, if relevant.
  • Equation letter from Ministry of Higher Education for degrees from outside Oman (for PG programme entry only)

The admission of a student is based on the reasonable expectation that he/she will be able to fulfil the objectives of the programme and achieve the standard required for the award.

Numbers of students admitted may be controlled by directives issued by the Ministry of Higher Education as well as by internal recruitment targets of the University.

All entry qualifications must be authenticated, so students must provide proof of qualifications gained. Any student not complying with such a request or falsifying evidence is liable to exclusion from the University.

Admission with ‘Advanced Standing’

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy outlines SU’s requirements and procedures to recognise students’ prior learning and to facilitate credit transfers for students to ensure alignment with academic standards, equity, and lifelong learning objectives. The RPL Policy supports SU’s mission by recognising diverse learning pathways to accelerate students’ success.

The RPL For Undergraduate Students:

  • Students can be given a maximum of 50% credit transferred to SU academic program credits, including up to 25% of Level 3 credits (This may increase for internal SU transfers only).
  • Level 4 courses credit transfers are eligible only for students taking the courses within SU programs provided that the total credit equivalence does not exceed 50% of the relevant program.

Criteria for acknowledging the credits are:

  • Prior learning should have taken place within the past 10 years.
  • There is a minimum Pass grade in any of the requested courses.

The RPL For Postgraduate Students:

  • Students can be given a maximum of 30% credit transfer to SU academic program credits, subject to the Dean’s approval and program-specific rules.

For RPL process undergraduate or postgraduate students must submit verified evidence of course description, and attested transcripts.

Recognition of International and Overseas Qualifications

In determining the equivalence of overseas qualifications (for initial or advanced standing), the University will be guided by the advice provided by the Ministry of Higher Education.
