Students can practice their cultural interests with an advisor being there to coach and provide required help.

Students can arrange for lectures, seminars, events and meetings, and competitions, including theatric and media events. Student groups under this are:

Sports activity aims to give students the chance to practice their favourite sports. Annual competitions are organized to encourage students to form their teams and practice sports.  SU teams participate in local and national competitions. Some of the sports are:

  • Football
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Table tennis
  • Goal ball (for blind students)
  • Handball
  • Swimming
  • Athletics
  • Chess
  • Cavalry

Artistic & Scouts

Students with artistic interests can also practice theirs. Special training workshops are organized to these students to help them improve their hobbies and produce better type of arts. Internal competitions are run to within and between students. Cooperation with fine arts groups locally and nationally help students know more about arts in Oman and internationally. Arts can be seen around campus, whether it has been produced by our students or by others. Displays are also on open and closed areas. Main student groups are:

Religious & Social

Religious and social activities are run for and by students. Different workshops and competitions are run throughout the year to demonstrate the religious and social values in Oman and Islam. Voluntary work is encouraged among students. Groups under this category are:

  • Quran & Hadeeth
  • Basaer Al-Oqool (dedicated to help students with disabilities)
  • Himatuna Ata'a (voluntary group)

Student Advisory Council

The Student Advisory Council started at Sohar University in 2007. The elected members represent the whole student body at SU. Students are represented across all committees of the University at all levels including the Academic Board. Student Advisory Council consists of different committees. The council has his own budget and can arrange different events in coordination with Student Activities Department.
