Sohar University held the translation day

Sohar University, represented by the Faculty of Language Studies, held Sohar University Translation Day on Wednesday, 06 March 2019, under the theme of “Translator Employability Between (Mis)Perceptions and Reality”.
Representatives of translator employers, translation service providers and translation initiative platforms and professional translators and interpreters as well as the University’s translation alumni participated in panel discussions and discussed issues related to translation quality, training, employment and skills that translation graduates should possess to be able to promote themselves in the translation competitive market.
The event aimed at enhancing the knowledge and experience of translation students from various Omani higher education institutions by utilizing the considerable market experience and professional expertise of translator employers and practitioners in the field with a view to achieving effective student preparation for the translation market and its diverse challenges.
During the event, a number of papers addressing such various topics as subtitling, translation of stories, technical and legal texts as well as the use of translation memories and terminology management software and other translation-related issues were also presented by translation students from different Omani universities and colleges over three parallel sessions.
The event was attended by translation academics, specialists and students from Sohar University and other Omani universities and colleges.
