In line with national trends and efforts towards empowering Omani competencies, Sohar University appointed Dr. Hamdan bin Suleiman Al-Fazari as the acting Vice Chancellor starting 2022.
Dr. Hamdan has extensive experience and qualifications that qualify him to reach this stage. He joined the university in 2013 as Pro Vice-Chancellor of Resources. Then he was promoted to Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Resources in 2018.
Dr. Hamdan is an associate professor with a PhD from the National Institute of Applied Sciences at the University of Toulouse. In addition, he has a Master's degree in Aeronautics and Aerospace Business Administration from the Toulouse School of Business in France.
Dr. Hamdan previously worked as an aeronautical engineering officer at the Royal Air Force of Oman. He had a distinguished record of experience in aeronautical engineering and academic leadership. He has held many senior management positions and has considerable experience in organizing strategic management in higher education and other sectors. In addition, Dr. Hamdan has a rich record of teaching, research, institutional and programs evaluation, and supervision of Doctoral and Master's thesis. He is also a member of several professional bodies and chairman of several committees at the local and international levels. Moreover, he has strong relations with many research laboratories, universities, research and industrial institutions in Oman and abroad.
Since joining the university, Dr. Hamdan has contributed to the development of many administrative and non-administrative aspects at the university, which reflected positively on the development of the university and its progress in steady steps to achieve many achievements and successes, the most important of which is the institutional accreditation of the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation.
