10th SU Theatre Festival

10th Sohar University Theatre Festival

Under the patronage of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Buraiki, the former Assistant Secretary-General of the State Council, 10th SU Theatre Festival was launched on the International Day of Theater, Sunday, 27th of March, and continued until 30th of March. This event comes in conjunction with the activities of the 19th student week. The opening night included an exhibition that tells about the history of theater at Sohar University during a whole decade, which was implemented by the Media Center at Sohar University. It included photographs showing the features of theatrical works and the internal and external participations of Sohar University, which is more than seventy-five theatrical performances during the past decade.

The opening of ceremony included the speech of Sohar University, which was delivered by Dr. Saif Al Hinai, Director of Student Activities Department, and a visual presentation that tells about all theatrical versions organized by the university. Moreover, the actor Saud Al-Khanjari was chosen as this year’s personality for the festival and was honored for his great effort in the theatrical and dramatic course and his continuous support for the Youth Festival for eight consecutive editions.

After that, the jury was introduced, which is headed by the talented actors Talib Al Balushi, Mohammed Nour Al Balushi and the director Ahmed Al Ajmi. The theatrical criticism committee was also introduced, which consisted of director Ahmed Al-Zadjali, Khaled Al-Shuaihi, Abdullah Tabuk and Ali Al-Farsi.

Then, a parallel play was presented by the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Sohar, entitled " euyun alkhudar ", directed by the student Bashar Al-Balushi and supervised by Professor Marwan Al-Maamari.

The festival included four theatrical performances in the competition field. They were as follows: the play “Zawjoh Yaqel” directed by the student Al-Mayassa Al-Balushi, the play “Opposites” directed by the student Nawar Al-Kahali, the play “The Last Turn” directed by the student Fadel Al-Breiki, and the play “The Chef” Directed by the student Nawaf Al-Dhawany.
