The Faculty of Language Studies has been awarded a research grant to build the Oman Royal Speeches Corpus (ORSC). The ORSC project compiles a transcribed corpus of the Royal Speeches by His Majesty, the Late Sultan Qaboos and His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq from 1970 to 2020. ORSC is a corpus of Oman Royal Speeches compiled by a team of seven student researchers from the Faculty of Language Studies at Sohar University; Mahmood Zayid Suwaid Saad AlBakri, Anwaar Abdallah Salim Al-Maqbali, Iman Mohammed Al Balushi, Ghadeer Rashid Al Ghefeili, Ebtihal Juma Albadri, Hiba Khalid Al Mandhari and Noof Mohammed Al Harrasi, under the mentorship of Aladdin Al Zahran (PhD).

The resultant corpus will be a searchable archive of Royal Speeches with a built-in online concordance tool allowing for word frequency and Key Word in Context searches. The main objective of this project is to contribute to Arabic and Omani content on the web and provide a reliable source of authentic information for researchers belonging to various disciplines.
