The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) has approved a new Software Engineering program in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology at Sohar University.
Sohar University (SU) continuously reviews and updates its programs and disciplines to ensure that they meet market needs, both inside and outside the Sultanate, and prepare students to be ready and able graduates with a range of high-end transferable skills.
The Faculty of Computing and Information Technology at SU is proud to announce that it has obtained MOHERI approval to start a BSc Software Engineering program from September, 2021/2022. This Software Engineering program will be one of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, and will prepare students for a variety of careers in the field of software engineering. The Faculty is also happy to announce that plans are in place to increase the number of CIT laboratories on campus, including a new bespoke laboratory which will enable students to work on 4th Industrial Revolution technologies. This will also be the first of its kind in the Sultanate.
In one of his statements, Professor Ahmad Kayed, the Dean of Faculty, pointed out the importance of scientific research in information and communication technologies as part of the 4th industrial revolution, and the need to introduce more practical applications of these technologies in our higher educational institutions in Oman. Professor Kayed also noted that thanks to launching these new laboratories, SU will play a significant role in advancing research and innovation in the Sultanate of Oman, as part of the 2040 vision.
