Candidates are guided through a process of thoughtful learning of the format of the four parts of the test, understanding the test question types and discovering essential practical exam tips.

Sohar University is an approved CELTA centre that is in strict compliance with the specifications and regulations produced by Cambridge English Language Assessment.
1) How is the Course Assessed?
- Teaching Practices (TPs): Candidates are required to teach adult classes with a minimum of two levels of ability. The amount of taught classes is 6 hours. The CELTA tutors assess candidates on their teaching performance with reference to the Cambridge English Language Assessment criteria.
- Written Assignments: Candidates are required to complete four written assignments (each 750-1000 words) with a focus on analysis of and responses to the needs of adult learners, language analysis for teaching purposes, language skill teaching, and reflections on classroom teaching.
For candidates to be awarded the CELTA certificate, they must pass both components of the course. The awarded grades are Pass, Pass “B”; and Pass “A”.
2) What does the Course Entail?
- Understanding students’ learning styles and strategies and the teaching and learning context in which they occur, and showing sensitivity to these tastes and needs
- Demonstrating solid knowledge of language analysis and awareness
- Applying different teaching approaches to language skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking
- Effectively planning for different teaching contexts and reflecting on these teaching practices
- Developing effective teaching skills and a genuine sense of professionalism
3) Duration of the Course
- The Full-time course is over 4 weeks including 120 hours of teaching practices, 30 hours per week excluding Saturdays
- The Part-time course is over 12 weeks including 120 hours of teaching practices, 6 hours per week plus Saturdays
4) Who is Eligible to Take the Course?
- a standard of education similar to that required for entry into higher education institutions
- a standard of English which would allow them to teach at a range of different levels
- 18 years old or over
- capable of showing a level of English equivalent to a total IELTS score Band 6
5) Course Dates and Group Size
- The dates of the Full-time courses are estimated to be in July every year.
- The dates of the Part-time courses are estimated to be in October, November and December or February, March and April every academic year.
- The minimum number of candidates is 9, but the maximum is 12 candidates per course.
6) How to Apply for the CELTA Courses
- download the CELTA application form
- print the application form to be completed,
- scan and sent the application form to CELTA@.su.edu.om accompanied with a scanned copy of the ID card for Omanis and a scanned copy of passport with a valid visa for expats.

- Course Overview: This course assists candidates in improving their English language proficiency in terms of the four skills and providing them with more professional and academic options in their future careers. This course is available at 5 levels: Beginner (A1), Elementary (A2), Intermediate (B1), Upper Intermediate (B2) and Advanced (C1). Candidates could be taught in mixed ability classes. The key aspects of the language including the four skills, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation are at the heart of this course delivery.
- Who Should Register? Motivated adult learners aged 18 plus who are keen on steadily improving their fluency, accuracy and confidence in using the language
- Minimum and Maximum Number of Candidates per Course: 10 - 15
- Course Format: 60 hours over 6 weeks, 10 lessons over 4 days: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
- Course Location: GFP building
- Course Overview: This course assists school students in satisfying their natural curiosity about foreign language learning. This course is available at 5 levels: Beginner (A1), Elementary (A2), Intermediate (B1), Upper Intermediate (B2) and Advanced (C1). Students could be taught in mixed ability classes. They can benefit from a range of engaging classroom activities, campus tours to learn about the university's facilities and a tailored workshop program. For the sake of their safety, the trusted teams of the summer school staff closely supervises students and ensure they are all safe and happy.
- Who Should Register? School students from grade 4 to grade 11 who are enthusiastically willing to engage in funny and fruitful learning summer events
- Minimum and Maximum Number of Candidates per Course: 10- 15
- Course Format: 36 hours over 4 weeks, 9 lessons weekly, 3 days a week, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
