Staff Development Week at Sohar University

Sohar University, represented by Human Resources Department and Staff Development Section, organized the Staff Development Week program for the academic year 2023/2024 for the 2nd Semester. This week aims to enhance and develop the skills and capabilities of the staff at all levels. The week provides diverse of learning and development opportunities to staff.  The week’s activities began with a speech by Dr. Hamdan Al-Fazari, Vice Chancellor of the University, in which he greeted the staff on the New Year and highlighted the University’s most significant achievements during the first semester. He also discussed the next goals, strategies, and plans that the University is working towards to achieve.

The event also included HH Al Sayyida Dr. Basma Al Said, Specialist in Mental Health and Founder of Whispers of Serenity Clinic, who presented about the Importance of Mental Health at Workplace. Dr Ali Al Hassnawi, Director of QA, Planning, and Accreditation, completed the first day with a talk on University Preparation for Institutional Reaccreditation. Then the seminars and lectures continued throughout the week, involving all university employees.

The week ended with an induction day for new staff who had recently joined the university. The induction day began with a welcoming speech by Dr. Mohammed Abdallah Al Maqbali, Pro Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, followed by a discussion about academic affairs led by Prof. Hamza Idris, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and a talk about Research Matters led by Prof. Kelvin Bwalya, Head of Research Development Department. The induction day also included HSE induction, in addition to HR Related Policies & Procedures. The day, also touched on the overview of the learning resources center services and SU Electronic Systems. The academic aspect was part of the induction program, which included Academic Policies Awareness and the OBE System. The introductory program concluded with SU Campus Tour.

The Staff Development Week is a positive sign of the university’s interest in supporting, developing its employees, which has a positive impact on employee satisfaction and enhancing their performance.
