A Symposium on Dual and Unified judiciary at SU

The Faculty of Law at SU, with its experienced faculty members, is focused on providing students with a high-quality education. The faculty uses a variety of teaching methods, such as conferences, seminars, symposiums, etc., to prepare students to be excellent future professionals in their fields, in line with International standards.

On January 23, 2023, the Faculty of Law at Sohar University conducted a symposium on The Dual and Unified systems of Jurisdiction in Contemporary Legal Systems. Dr Ali Heikal moderated the seminar on the university campus.

Participants Targeted

The symposium targeted postgraduate students, and graduates from the Faculty of Law lawyers, researchers and people in general who are interested in law, can understand how the judicial system in the Sultanate of Oman changed into a unified system, both in terms of its structure and its procedures, as the change is relatively new.

Objective of the Symposium

This symposium aims to promote the following objectives:

  • To raise community awareness of legal laws.
  • To understand the philosophy of the dual and unified judicial systems.
  • To Develop the capabilities of legal and interested researchers.
  • To enrich graduates and those involved in the field of law with judicial systems.
  • To identify the nature of Royal Decree No. 35/2022.
  • To encourage scholars and individuals interested in law to examine the Sultanate of Oman's judicial system's recent transformation into a unified system, both substantively and procedurally.

Themes of the Symposium

The symposium was summarized in three main themes:

  1. First Topic titled: Illuminations on the transformation of the Omani judiciary from the dual judicial system to the unified judicial system, addressed by Dr Ali Haikal from Sohar University.
  2. The second topic came under the title: Reflections on Royal Decree No. 35/2022 regarding the organization of the administration of judicial affairs, presented by Dr Qais Al-Sabaei.
  3. The third discussion focused on "The Unified Judicial System: The Experiences of Some Arab Countries," and it was presented by the lawyer Mr. Al-Azwar Al-Saadi.
