Few people can boast the wealth of academic and administrative experience accrued at Sohar University by Professor Hamza Edrees. Professor Hamza Edrees joined Sohar University in 2000, following a research and teaching tenure at Strathclyde University. Since then, he has served as Acting Vice Chancellor and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology. However, it is his Deanship of the Faculty of Engineering which, perhaps, has been his most significant achievement. Today, the Faculty offers Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programmes in Civil, Electrical and Computer, Chemical and Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering. Professor Hamza is now Sohar University’s Pro Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and, currently, brings his administrative expertise to the Quality Assurance system at the University.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Maqbali is Pro Vice Chancellor for Administration & Finance. Dr. Mohammed completed a Master’s degree in International Educational Management at the University of Leeds (UK) and was awarded a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) at the United Arab Emirates University. Dr. Mohammed has served on the Sohar Municipal Committee, is President of the Hayat Group, Sohar, an organisation devoted to supporting disadvantaged people in the local area and is a patron of the Al Noor Association for the Blind (Al Batinah North), so his tenure as PVC for Student Affairs signaled his keynote contribution to the University and our wider community, and has made him, of course, eminently suited to and qualified for the post of PVC for Student Affairs and Engagement.
