Cultural Activities

The University organized two media festivals. These festivals attracted lots of people who are interested in this field.

The University organized the First Film Festival with the participation of many other HEIs. Our students managed to achieve the best second film award by the film "Misery".

The Student Activities Department organized the first edition of the Short Plays Festival, which contained four theatre performances: "the Daughter of the King", "a colorless", "a time", and "I am the one" from 3 - 4 Dec. 19. The festival was organized to support beginner students. About 90 students participated in the festival to compete for the awards.

The University participated with the play "End Billy" and won the prize for the best decor and an award for a good performance.

The Student Activities Department has been organizing a series of consecutive theatrical festivals. These festivals include workshops, directing, acting and writing. Students compete for thirteen prizes. Furthermore, the University welcomes all HEIs to participate in this festival.

The University participated with the play "Ash" and won five awards (best lighting - best decoration - best makeup - best costumes - team work award) in Jordan 2011/2012. The University also participated with another play "Sahara" and won an award for team work in 2014.

This group is related to work on the Omani and Arab writers in various literature fields. Lecturers from the College of Education & Arts and a group of literatures from other institutions normally participate in these gatherings.

The University organized many chanting events. Professionals from around the country as well as students participated in these performances.

The University through its students has been participating effectively in Oman Science Festivals which has been taken place over the last couple of years

Our entrepreneurship group organized a forum for entrepreneurs in March of last year with participation of students from many HEIs in Oman and a number of business leaders. The group focuses on using creative thoughts of students to establish or develop projects that are beneficial to others.

The Department of Student Activities organizes the annual "Qader" festival for students and people with special needs. Students with special needs get their chance to show their talent. Lots of people with special needs from different entities and areas around Oman normally participate in this annual event.

The Student Activities Department organizes the annual Student Week which includes all student groups. In this week, the work and talents of different student groups are highlighted through exhibitions, workshops, lectures and competitions.

Sohar University has established the first elected Student Advisory Council in higher education in Oman in 2007. The elections are held annually for students to choose their representatives. The Council represent the student body in all committees across the different levels at the University, including the Academic Board. The Council also organizes events, and gatherings across the academic year.

The Department of Student Activities in cooperation with the Student Advisory Council organizes the annual National Day celebrations.
