Dr Loay Hassouneh
Biography
I hold a PhD in Biology (Physiology) awarded in 2008 from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Ukraine. My academic interests include teaching General Biology, Physiology, and Anatomy. I have developed substantial teaching experience and effective pedagogical approaches that enable me to present complex biological concepts in an engaging, accessible, and student-centered manner.
My research expertise focuses on the study of age-related characteristics of neurohumoral regulation of physiological functions, as well as investigating the role of intracellular messengers in the mechanisms of hormonal signal transduction. These areas reflect my broader interest in integrative physiology and cellular communication pathways.
During my induction year, I am particularly keen to expand and further develop my expertise in student assessment, with special emphasis on both self-assessment and peer-assessment strategies, as tools to enhance reflective learning and academic performance.
Overall, my university experience — especially my teaching practice — has reinforced my belief that teaching biological sciences is one of the most challenging, demanding, and intellectually stimulating careers. It is also highly diverse and rewarding. I look forward to opportunities to work across different universities, as such experiences are vital for enriching my academic growth, teaching innovation, and professional development.
