What Our Students Say

Qasim Al Ghaithi
My name is Qasim Al Ghaithi. I graduated from Sohar University in 2015 with a degree in Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering and now currently employed by Minerals Development as a Manager - Asset Management. My studies at Sohar University helped me later, not only advancing my career but also enabling me to continue my master's degree in one of the best business schools in the world, HEC Paris in France, with an exchange programme at Cornell University in the US. Now I have over twelve years of experience in the Oil & Gas, Logistic and Mining sectors, starting with Halliburton as a drilling tools specialist before moving to OQ and serving multiple functions at different seniority levels: operation, maintenance, internal audit, and business development. Prior to joining MDO, I was Senior Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis at Port of Salalah, where I was responsible for driving performance management across the organization. In my current role with MDO as Asset Manager, I’m responsible for monitoring the group's diverse portfolio of investments and engaging with portfolio companies in strategic dialogue to drive value creation. As a graduate of Sohar University with a degree in Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, I believe that the university provided me with the appropriate tools and knowledge and taught me how to maximise my potential in order to market myself with a competitive advantage and transform my prospects into actual opportunities.

Karim Saleh Al-Habsi
I was truly honored to be given the opportunity to pursue my undergraduate studies in Business Management at Sohar University. Sohar University is regarded as one of the Sultanate's most prestigious institutions. The experience gained throughout the learning journey was astounding and unforgettable, with the university prudently providing us with a fascinating environment in which we were exposed to various challenges/experiments that enabled us to enhance and up-skill our practical as well as theoretical competencies in a manner that corresponded with employability requirements. The experience gained has opened up valuable doors of employment opportunities, and I have been fortunate to be appointed by reputable organizations in a variety of industries, including oil and gas, services, and banking. I am currently working at the Central Bank of Oman as a Senior Human Resources Specialist as a result of my Sohar University experience, and I am implementing at the workplace the knowledge acquired to perform my roles effectively, which knowledge includes interpersonal skills, team building, innovation, IT literacy, analysis, reporting, and so on. Furthermore, the skills I learned enabled me to pursue postgraduate studies in the UK, where I was able to correlate the competencies I gained from participating in various activities at Sohar University such as English Association Group, delivering a speech at the students' alumni/graduation ceremony, site visits to various entities organized by SU, workshops, symposiums, and others occassions. Skill-set such as report writing, critical analysis, researching and so forth have played a very fundamental role in underpinning my learning journey in the UK as I was able to cope up with numerous multi-cultural backgrounds, apply the learnt academic skills, communicate effectively, showcase my potentials & accordingly contribute in the field of research in various disciplines. Also, set of obtained skills have allowed me to acquire professional certificate which is CIPD and CIA.

Ali Ibrahim Al Maeini
Currently, I am the Manager of the Smart Meter and Prepaid Rollout Department at Majan Electricity Company, where I hold a senior position. My study experience at the faculty as an undergraduate engineering student was highly productive and enjoyable. I am grateful for the encouragement, dedication, and helpful behaviour from my teachers. The concepts of electrical and computer engineering that I've learned and the hands-on experience I've received have helped me to excel in my engineering profession. The hands-on experience I obtained via the course work and project components aided me throughout my career in generating fresh ideas and building creative applications for my sector. I am honoured to have graduated from the Faculty of Engineering in Sohar University.

Fatema Sayed
Being a student at Sohar University has shown me that I have unlimited potential to do well at academic levels and solve any problems I face. As an expatriate student, I had many difficulties integrating with my colleagues at the beginning. It was even harder being a student with chronic health conditions that forced me to be absent a lot. I thought I could never be an excellent student or be able to merge with the new environment, but my teachers showed me the exact opposite. They supported and guided me all the way through; some of them even felt like family to me. They trusted my abilities, so I started to trust myself. They encouraged me to be a peer tutor and to participate in the English language conference, although I had low self-esteem back then. Melancholy has lost her hold on me, and I am no longer the pensive Fatima that I was. This vibrant campus has moulded me into an enterprising, workaholic student. My academic achievements have always been recognised and awarded. This, in turn, has enhanced my confidence and my social and academic intelligence. My journey at Sohar University goes beyond words. I am grateful to this campus for changing me into the person I am today, and I’m happy to be fortunate enough to enrol in this great university!
